The Cryptic Carnival! - Warhammer 40,000: Saturday 23rd November 2024

This event will use Matched Play rules, as this is more balanced and easier to organise than Open Play.

Players are strongly encouraged to take fun and balanced lists, or use quirky units they might not normally use; this creates a more positive play experience for everyone and is more likely to earn you points for being a good sportsman from your opponents.

This is not the sort of event where min-maxing and meta lists are rewarded.  

Prizes will be offered for the following:

Terrain will be provided by the store.

Doors Open: 9:00 am

Mission Briefing and Event Introduction: 9:15 am - 9:30 am

Lunch: 12:15 pm - 12:45 pm (30 minutes)

Break: 3:30 pm - 3:45 pm (15 minutes)

In all rounds, secondary objectives and gambits are determined by the players as normal in 40k Matched Play.

Gameplay is only part of the ways in which a person can succeed at ‘Cryptic Carnival, this is an event that celebrates all aspects of this hobby and as such, scoring will be based on the following.

Gameplay record: Every player will have between 0-15 points from their wins, draws and losses (see the points system below in Section 11). The player with the overall best Gameplay record will receive a prize.

Sportsmanship: During round 3, each player will vote for which of their three opponents they preferred playing against. Each player will receive 5 points for every time they were nominated in this manner. The player nominated the most times overall (a maximum of 3 times) will be crowned the ‘Players Player’. Tiebreakers for this title will be decided by the staff.

Paintjob: During the Lunch Break, players must line up their armies on the large Downstairs 6x4 table for display. Each player will be given a vote as to which 3 armies they believe are best painted. Players will rank their choices from 1st-3rd. Each player will receive 5 points for every time they were voted 1st, 4 for every time they were voted 2nd and 3 for every time they were voted 3rd. Players can score a maximum of 15 points this way, all further points will be discarded. The player whose army is nominated 1st the most number of times (counting both those results that contributed to their maximum of 15 points and those that did not) will win ‘Best Painted Army’. Tiebreakers for this title will be decided by the staff.

Army Concept: Also during the lunch break, players can vote for the single army they believe is the coolest concept; the most intriguing looking, the best conversion job etc. This does not have to be any of the armies one nominates for best painted. Players will receive 5 additional points for every time they are nominated in this way, to a maximum of 15 points. 

All players will thus have an overall score of 0-60. The player with the highest score will be crowned ‘Cabin Champion’. In the event that this is a tie, the player with the best Gameplay Record will win.
